ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY FORUM MEMBERS LAUNCH "ROUND THE WORLD 3D DISPOSABLE CAMERA PROJECT"

Photographers, who are members of the Royal Photographic Society Forum from around the world, have launched The first Round The World 3D Camera Project. A photographic tour of the world is to be made by two simple stereoscopic camera arrangements, each based on two disposable cameras fixed to a purpose built frame, that will be passed between eighteen participating photographers in thirteen countries, and the resulting images will be exhibited on completion of this epic journey.

The camera units have been named after founding fathers of photography William Fox Talbot and Louis Mande Daguerre. Constructed by photographer Eddie Maes in Belgium, William comprises of two disposable Agfa LeBox cameras and Louis comprises of two disposable Kodak HD cameras.

The starting date coincides with the date of birth of yet another father of photography – the Brazilian Hercules Florence (born 29th February 1804).

The photographers involved in the RTW tour will each create three shots each in which to capture a moment in time and represent their geographical part of the world. The first stereogram will be representative of the location, the second of the photographer with a free subject and the third will be representative of the group through a concept of Cadavre Exquis. On completion of the RTW tour the films will be developed and the resulting prints will be exhibited.

While raising cultural awareness through photography, the RTW camera project is working in association with Black and White Spider Awards, the international awards show, to benefit Art for Disabled Children, a non profit organization that provides children from disadvantaged backgrounds with photographic art and cameras.

"Round The World camera project is an incredible idea and Black and White Spider Awards is very excited to be a part of it" said Basil O'Brien, founder and creative director of the awards.

The RTW3D Camera project aims to promote and strengthens links between professional and amateur photographers and, while the RPS itself is not involved in the project, it brings together RPS Forum members from around the globe in a unique charity challenge.

The Royal Photographic Society ( RPS ) is the foremost photographic society in the world, founded when photography was in its infancy, and a leading force in its advancement ever since. Its aim is to promote excellence in the art and science of photography. The RPS enables its members to get more out of photography by helping them to meet other photographers, develop their skills, stay abreast of new developments and pursue their particular interests.

Sponsors interested in participating in the Round the World 3D Camera project should contact a participant in their region.
