Rights
- The set of all stereograms, all pictures, and remains of the Device is a collective work by the Group.
- Each photographer retains the rights to the material that constitutes his contribution
- Each photographer will grant the RPS a free right of reproduction for the purpose of promoting this initiative
- For any other licence to be granted, unanimous agreement must be reached between members of the Group
Liabilities
- Each photographer is and remains solely responsible for any rules or regulations
his photographs might break
- In any event leading to a picture having to be removed from the Work, licence
previously granted will end and a new layout will be created by the Group (or a
smaller subset) and be made available for licence. Licence will automatically be
granted to the RPS
Project
- The project must be officially declared "started" before the first photographer in the list takes the first stereogram.
- One Device will travel around the world in one direction (William, westward) and the other in the opposite direction (Louis, eastward).
- The first device will start its journey on 1st March, 2005.
- The second device will start its journey a week later.
- The theme of the project, giving some cohesion to the work, is "Places" ie an image that typifies the location in which the images are being taken. The theme will apply to both the stereograms and the pictures of the device.
- A sub-theme in the style "cadavre exquis" will provide an artistic element to the project
- Each photographer must take ONE pair of stereoscopic pictures in accordance with The Theme, ONE pair of pictures to comply with the cadavre exquis subject, and ONE pair of pictures of their own choice (three pairs of images using The Device)
- Each photographer, by separate means ie using their own equipment, will take a creative picture that incorporates a view of the Device in situ amd thus reflecting the “Places” theme
- Any photographer wishing to take additional Creative images, using his/her equipment, to include in the project is free to do so.
- Each Device should remain with a Photographer for a period of no longer that 2 weeks.
- Print sizes for sterograms, pictures of the device, and any additional images must be no smaller than 10" x 8" and no larger than 20" x 16"
- The number prints to be produced for distribution will be 20, being one per photographer plus three for the RPS, and one for the Charity
- Final destination is the start base, ie back to Eddie Maes.
Cadavre Exquis
- This element is designed to add some character and creativity to the project
- the first person in the loop takes a picture and writes on a note a word describing something in the picture. It doesn't even have to be the main subject
- the next person must include in his picture something related to the word on the note
- a word describing something in this picture is then similarly put down on a note. It doesn't have to be related to either the main subject or the element that goes with the word received
Example...
- Photographer A starts with his picture of the Donkey. He writes SNOW
- Photographer B receives the camera and the note with SNOW written on it.
- Photographer B takes a picture of a breakfast table with a bowl of cornFLAKES on it
- Photographer B writes down TEA and sends the note to Photographer C
- who shoots a train station quay with a heap of BAGS in a corner
- she writes down RAILS
- ...
Final stage
- The final stage of the Project will commence when the Devices arrive at the designated final destination
- Stereograms are to be developed, printed and scanned
- The scanned images are exhibited on the RPS forum in lo-resolution
- The remains of the device and all initial prints are kept as the "original work".
- Each photographer receives a print of all stereograms and pictures of the device
- All costs related to the project should be declared by the participants.
- A decision shall be made as to the treatment of shuch costs ie if they are either to be covered by sponsorships, where possible, or by the individual photographers. Such costs may be waived by the photographers if they chose to, but are under no obligation in this respect.
Charity
- All funds raised by this project by donation or sponsorship will be passed on to the agreed charity.
- The selected charity is "Art for Disabled Children".
Sponsorships
- The Group may jointly or individually approach institutions, corporations, or individuals, to sponsor or donate to the project.
- In the interests of minimising risk and simplifying procedures, no monies will be collected - instead any promises of donations will be recorded and followed up at the end of the project.
- The Group takes no responsibility for any bank charges, legal costs or exchange rate movements in respect of the funds collected and dispersed.
Exhibitions
- It is intended that the resulting images should be exhibited.
- Details of the locations and logistics of mounting an exhibition will be deferred until after the project has been offically launched – most likely in the middle of the journey of the Devices - at which time the sponsors and quantity of sponsorship money available will be known.
- One Exhibition has been confirmed (in Brazil) though the date of this has yet to be fixed.
